Otentic is the only eco tented camp in Mauritius. There are 2 different camps: one by a river mouth and one in the mountains.
River Tented Camp
From 100 Euros per unit per night incl. Breakfast
Max 2 Adults & 3 Children / 4 Adults
The River Tented Camp is located on the bank of Grande Rivière Sud Est, in a small village called Deux Freres on the East coast of Mauritius, one of the least developed part of the island. The lodge is ideally located halfway between the stunning GRSE waterfall and the 25kms crystal lagoon stretching from Blue Bay all the way to Trou d’Eau Douce.
Otentic has been built exclusively from wood and recycled materials, its main objective being to have the least possible environmental impact. It generates its own energy through photovoltaic panels and solar water heaters. A waste recycling system is in place, although sadly the majority of Mauritians have no eco-friendly living awareness whatsoever. Two of the most beautiful beaches of Mauritius, Ile aux Cerfs & Ilot Mangenie are only 30 minutes boat trip away. Every morning a free shuttle boat will bring you there at 9.30 and will bring you back to base for lunch to taste their chef’s amazing local Creole cuisine.
Discover Mauritius differently with Otentic!
Accommodation at the river camp:
There are 12 safari tents and 2 wooden chalets in a lush palm tree garden.
Tents have a large terrace, one room with individual bathroom and toilets. Each tent can accommodate 2 adults and 3 children (one double bed and two or three single beds) or up to 4 adults (one double bed and two single beds).
Tents are made of canvas and are covered with a fly-sheet to protect from the rain and a knitted shade net to protect from the sun. This double protection ensures that the tents always remain cool and dry no matter how hot and wet the weather gets. Each tent covers an area of 50 square metres (10 X 5M) and has its own bathroom and toilet.
Tents are mounted on wooden decks 5 – 10 feet above ground level. Bathrooms are made of demolition wood recovered from old creole houses. Bath sinks are carved from a single piece of wood and are positioned on old wooden doors. Bed mattresses are on transportation palettes and potato boxes are used for storage. Each tent can accommodate up to 2 adults and 3 children.
2 wooden chalets each have a small terrace under the shade of mango trees. They both have 2 separate bedrooms and a bathroom and can also accommodate up to 2 adults and 3 children.
Every infrastructure or furniture on site is 100% moveable and can be re-located very easily. Their environmental footprint is close to nil.
There is a pool-side restaurant overlooking the river that serves delicious Mauritian specialities. In the morning, a complimentary continental breakfast made exclusively of fresh local products will be served. Freshly brewed espresso coffee, homemade yogurt and 100% natural fruit juices will provide you the energy needed to kick-start your day.
